This is the weight of a diamond, a carat being 0.2gm. To mine 1.0ct of diamonds,
an average of approximately 2 tons of diamond-bearing earth must be excavated,
one of the many reasons why diamonds, particularly large ones, are so
expensive.
Smaller stones are divided into points of a carat, a point being 1/100 of a
carat, and 50 points being ½ a carat.
